Kanban is a part of Agile approach of software development. It´s a method for managing knowledge work with an emphasis on just-in-time delivery.
If you are used to work with on-premise CASE tools, you will be probably surprised how easy it is to use LucidChart. It’s clear that working with cloud application is not yet so comfortable as with any other application installed locally, but don’t give up until you’ve tried it.
If you have Google or Yahoo account, you can logon to LucidChart very easily. These logins are integrated with LucidChart. Once you are in it’s also good to set up saving process - created documents should be saved into your Google Drive (to a specific folder). You can use a disc space directly in LucidChart environment, but why not to have everything in one place? When this is ready, let’s have a look at what you can do with LucidChart. When you want to create a diagram, you can choose dozens of various types as wireframes, flowcharts, UML/ERD, Venn diagrams and many other. It’s only up to you, if you want to start creating your diagram totally from beginning (blank document) or use any of prepared templates. With LucidChart it is possible to design the whole application from the “bottom” (like application layer) up to the higher level like presentation layer (wireframes of UI for PC, and also for a mobile device). And one more thing, it’s also possible to make something different than just “IT app’s diagrams”. For example Office floorplan or Server rack diagram, etc. (shown on pictures).
How to control the program
Workspace is quite clear and it’s similar to any other desktop drawing app. There is a stripe on the left side which contains a lot of objects which are ready to be moved to the drawing area. On the right side you can find floating windows with attributes related to the chosen object. And on the top (above the drawing area) is a menu bar with common menu items (like File, Edit, etc...) where is also another bar with options of chosen objects (similar to the floating windows). If you move mouse arrow next to the end of the work area, you can see hidden option which can be used if you want to enlarge a work area. There is also possibility of zoom in / zoom out the view of course.
File types and other functionality
Created diagrams are possible download like PDF, PNG, JPEG or in Visio (VDX) format. Thanks to integration with Google, you can save it also in Google Drive. It is also possible to make announcement on Social network like Facebook, G+ or Twitter and to share a created diagram with other people (similar funcionality to Google Documents). LucidChart is fully integrated with Visio. That means you can save current work into Visio format, you can import any Visio project or you can also import Visio stencils. This is really advantage. Imagine situation that a business partner brings to you a project created in Visio and you don’t have this application. In a situation like this, you can easily open it in LucidChart, make some changes and save it again in Visio format. And you don’t have to buy Visio itself. LucidChart offers much more functionality and is not possible to cover everything in this article.
